Vasectomy is the most common method of sterilisation in men.

A Vasectomy is a simple procedure performed under local anaesthetic. The procedure usually takes around 30 minutes.

The procedure involves the two vas tubes being cut and tied. This blocks the flow of sperm from the testicles into the penis, so that when the man ejaculates the semen does not contain sperm. This process known as male sterilisation is also known as “The Snip”.

If you have a vasectomy, your sex drive, production of sex hormones and ability to reach orgasm will not be affected.

It takes around three months from the time of the procedure for a vasectomy to begin working. It is important to have a sperm test to check for this.

Vasectomy is more than 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. It is permanent & allows your partner to stop taking other forms of contraception to prevent pregnancy.
