Iron is an important dietary mineral that is involved in various bodily functions, including the transport of oxygen in the blood. Dietary iron is found in animal & plant foods. Iron deficiency can be treated by adding iron-rich foods to your diet.
Iron deficiency is when your body’s iron stores are too low. Common causes include not getting enough iron in your diet, chronic blood loss, pregnancy & vigorous exercise. Some foods & drinks affect how much iron your body absorbs.
If you have iron deficiency anaemia, your GP (doctor) may recommend iron supplements or an Iron Infusion.
An Iron Infusion is a simple procedure used to treat iron deficiency by replenishing depleted iron stores with intravenous iron. Iron infusions are performed by a number of our experienced GP’s at Clyde North Medical Centre.
If you feel that you may be iron deficient, make an appointment with one of our friendly GP’s. They will assess & recommend the best course of treatment.
If you have had recent blood tests that confirm you ferritin is low & you require an iron infusion please call the clinic or book online via the HotDoc app. The GP will have an initial discussion consult with you to discuss the iron infusion procedure.
